History

Mt Stirling Olive Farm is located at Glen Aplin around ten kilometres from Stanthorpe - the small village aptly famous for brass monkey weather and the coldest place in Queensland.

Jim Miller and his wife Vivienne Quinn own and operate Mt Stirling Olives which is situated on the 175 acre property in the heart of wine country.

Jim and Vivienne had a small cattle property at Killarney before purchasing Mt Stirling Olives.  They would make trips to The Granite Belt to purchase wine, local produce and also olives from the former owners.

As luck would have it, on one of these trips they noticed the olive farm was for sale – the purchase was made and Jim became an olive grower.  The year was 2003.

This was to be Jim’s first foray into a retail business.  Jim had previously owned and operated a wholesale business for the better part of thirty years.

From a base of 3,500 trees which had been planted in 1993, Jim set about to reinvent (in his own unique way) - the olive business.

At the time of purchase Mt Stirling Olives mainly produced a range of tapenades and pickled olives.

The range has now expanded to include rich and fruity extra virgin cold pressed olive oils.  This also includes oils infused with the natural flavours of truffle, lemon myrtle, bush lime, garlic and chili.

The olive range has also grown with Spanish Manzanillos spiced with herbs, chilli and garlic, Greek Kalamatas, Salted and Sundried Olives,Kalamatas in Rasberry Vinegar, Jumbo Kalamatas, Cracked Turkish Style Olives and Jim’s latest inclusion the Manzanillo bathed in Coriander and Garlic.

The old goods shed from the Glen Aplin Railway Station was the original home of the olive shop but as the business grew the shop was moved to a bigger and more suitable location.

Then Jim decided to expand our offering to include something for those with a sweet tooth and the “now famous” Mt Stirling Fudge was launched. The fudge is manufactured under license from Calico Fudge New York, one of the most prestigious fudge company’s in the world.  With over twenty five flavours to choose from there is fudge for everyone.  We also have great coffee.

Mt Stirling Olive Farm also boasts an extensive and well priced gift shop full of exotic olive soaps, hand and face creams, body washes and beautifully perfumed soaps from around the world.  Gifts of china ware pertaining to all things olives.

Mt Stirling Olive Farm also has two accommodation cottages.  Almandine and Camellia Cottages provide privacy and comfort nestled within the olive groves.  Both tastefully decorated in a Mediterranean style.  The cottages are located on the estate and are both dog friendly.

We know you will enjoy our website and we look forward to seeing you next time you visit The Granite Belt.
